During a press conference on February 8, 1963, astronaut Gordon Cooper described his mission aboard the Faith 7 spacecraft as “practically a flying camera.”

Cooper is said to have noted anomalies in Caribbean waters and, in the decades after his flight, compiled coordinates around features he thought to be shipwrecks.
